Meet Galway Singles Over 60
Galway likes to think of itself as young at heart, and its over 60s are the proof. They have watched every new crowd of students arrive and leave again, and they are still here, still curious and quite often single. Most would rather talk over a good walk than shout over a band.
Salthill Promenade runs for about 2 kilometres from the edge of the city to the Blackrock Diving Tower, completed in 1953. Local tradition says you kick the wall across from the tower for luck. Whether it helps your love life is unproven, but it gives you something to laugh about on the walk back.
Galway City Museum sits beside the Spanish Arch on the banks of the River Corrib, and admission is free. Further west, Connemara National Park near Letterfrack is free to enter, with trails such as the gentle Ellis Wood Nature Trail and the Lower Diamond Trail.
