The Suir Blueway follows the river towpath for 21 kilometres between Clonmel and Carrick on Suir, and you can join it at Suir Island or Denis Burke Park in the town. A short stroll along the water is plenty for a first meeting.
The Tipperary Museum of Hidden History is free to visit and full of local stories about castles, rural life and the big houses of the Suir Valley. Afterwards, wander along O'Connell Street to the West Gate, built in 1831 on the site of an older defence at the western entrance to the town.
